Frequently asked questions

How does therapy work?

I get this question a lot, so don't worry. You're not the only one unsure how therapy is supposed to work. During the initial session, you will be asked what feels like a hundred questions to gain a better understanding of your past, where you are now, and what issues are most pressing for you. You will develop a treatment plan together with your therapist and be educated on what theory or modality will be used during sessions. At each follow-up session, your therapist will do a "check-in" to learn your moods, struggles, good and bad days, and review homework. Then, you will jump into the treatment plan. At Honest Counseling we believe in openness and transparency so, if something is not working for you, please discuss with your therapist.

How much does therapy cost?

Self-Pay Rates vary by therapist. You can view exact rates by viewing the home page. Generally, intake session range between $130-$120 and follow up session are between $90-$100 currently. Prices increase 5%-6% yearly.

What insurances do you accept?

Insurances accepted vary between therapist. You can view the exact insurances accept by therapist by reading the Home Page. Generally, we accept:

  • UHC, UMR, Optum Rx, and Oscar

  • BCBSTX, Blue Choice PPO, Blue Essentials, HealthSelect of Texas, Blue Premier, Blue High Performance Network, Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (PPO), Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (HMO).

  •  Aetna

  • Medicaid of Texas

The best way to know if your insurance is accepted is to upload your insurance card to the client portal and the admin will verify your benefits and payment responsibility.

Choosing Insurance V.S. Self Pay

In exchange for paying for your treatment, insurance companies require a diagnosis which becomes a permanent record of your overall health record. Insurance companies also require access to your therapy notes and this information can be accessible to any third party according to your insurance provider's terms and agreements. Lastly, your insurance provider may limit the number of sessions it will agree to pay for as well as direct the type of therapy you receive. As a private pay client, you maintain the control of the number of sessions you want and what you would like to work on in therapy. Ethically, it's my responsibly to keep your medical information private and confidential in accordance with Texas State Law and Federal Law.

How do I set up a session?

I recommend setting up a free consultation with your therapist of interest to do a meet and greet and ensure it is a good fit for you. You may also schedule an initial consultation with Celeste who is the owner and she can place you with the therapist she feels would be the best fit. To schedule a free consultation, click the Client Portal Tab at the top of the page, select your preferred therapist and schedule a free video or phone consultation. Note: A credit card on file is required and there is a $25 no show fee for consultations. If you schedule a full 60 min. intake session and no show, you will be charge the full self pay rate (either $90 or $100). This is because clinicians get paid per session and your appointment time could have been used to schedule another client.
